Date Published: 10-Nov-2011
Galway’s Michael D.Higgins is this evening putting the finishing touches to his speech ahead of his inauguration as the ninth President of Ireland.
Rehearsals have been taking place at Dublin Castle today ahead of tomorow’s event, expected to be attended by around 700 people.
Tomorrow morning, Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina will be taken to the castle in a 1974 rolls royce escorted by motorcycle outriders from the Defence forces.
The inaguration will take place at 12 noon with the Taoiseach requesting the Chief Justice to read out the Declaration of office to the President-elect.
This will be followed by the signing of the declaration, and Michael D’s inaugural speech.
Following the speech, our new President will be invited to inspect the Guard of honour in the upper courtyard.
There will also be a ‘march past’ where the guard of honour ceremonially marches past as well as a ‘fly past’ which is four Air Corps aircraft again rendering honours.
The President will then meet members of the public, following which they will depart for the ceremonial drive to the Aras.
