MICHAEL D HIGGINS PAYS TRIBUTE TO PAT RABBITTE

Galway’s only Labour TD Michael D Higgins has been paying tribute to Pat Rabbitte who’s standing down as leader of the Labour Party.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Dublin within the past half hour.

It follows Labour’s disappointing showing in May’s general election.

The Mayo native and UCG Graduate was first elected to the Dail in 1989 for the Workers Party.

He gave one of his last public speeches as leader to Labour Youth’s Tom Johnson Summer School in Galway in July.
