Mervue woman sentenced for drug dealing
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Mervue grandmother who punched a Garda during a drugs search at her home, has been given a six-month sentence for heroin dealing.
45 year-old Olivia O’Connor of 1 Mallon Avenue, Mervue, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to having heroin for sale or supply to others at her home on June 8th last year.
Olivia O’Connor is currently serving consecutive eleven and six-month sentences for previous heroin drug dealing and possession charges.
She pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to assaulting a female Garda by punching her in the mouth on April 14th last year during another drugs search at her home.
Defence barrister, Jennifer Higgins, said O’Connor was selling heroin to feed her own habit, but she was now on a methadone programme.
She added that since going to prison last week, O Connor had begun to avail of addiction treatment services.
Judge Timothy Lucey imposed a concurrent six-month sentence on her for drug dealing and took the assault charge into account.
