Mervue Utd into last 8 of Connacht Junior Cup but three other Galway sides bow out
Barry Moran made it 32 goals for the season as his four on Friday night ensured Mervue United’s safe passage to the last eight of the Connacht Junior Cup with a less than impressive 4-2 victory over Colemanstown United on the Astroturf at Fahy’s Field.
Despite producing a terrific performance, Maree Oranmore still came up just short, when after sharing six goals, they lost on penalties to last season’s runners up Westport United. The concession of two early goals saw the downfall of St Bernard’s as they lost away to Boyle Celtic, while Moyne Villa lost an interval advantage, when eventually going down to MD Town.
The draw for the quarterfinal has produced an intriguing repeat of last season’s semi-final, with Westport United due to host Mervue United once more.
Quarter-final draw: Westport United v Mervue United; Moore United/Calry Bohs v Ballinasloe Town; Ballina Town/Corrib Rangers B v Tuam Celtic/Renmore/Corrib Celtic; Knocknacarra/MD Town/Castlebar Celtic v Boyle Celtic.
