MERVUE SOCCER COACH NAMED VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Soccer coach, Billy Carr from Mervue has been named Galway Credit Union Volunteer of the Year.
He was presented with the award at the 7th Annual Mayor’s Awards for Galway City at a ceremony last night, which was broadcast live on Galway Bay Fm.
The popular Mayor’s Awards acknowledge outstanding volunteers and organisations who’ve improved their communities in the city over the last year.
Ala Community Theatre in Ballybane won the St Anthony’s and Claddagh Credit Union Arts, Culture, Heritage and Gaeilge Award.
St Columbas Credit Union Resident and Local Areas Award went to Renmore Residents Association.
Naomh Pádraig Credit Union Social and Community Support Award was won by both the Galway Volvo Ocean Race Volunteers and the Galway Branch of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The Sports Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Michael Grealish of Our Lady’s Boys Club and the Connacht Branch of the IRFU.
Volunteers from Big Brothers and Big Sisters Galway won the Children and Youth Award.
While the Young Volunteers of the Year Award went to Foundation Nepal/Transition Year Students of Colaiste Iognáid, The Jes.
Each winner was presented with a cheque for 700 euro and a Galway Crystal Plate by the Mayor of Galway Declan McDonnell.
