Mervue and Salthill join the big time

CITY soccer clubs Mervue United and Salthill Devon have been given an opportunity to play on a national stage after they were welcomed into the new third tier of the League of Ireland this week.
Both clubs will take part in the new ‘A Championship’ from June of next year, with the carrot of promotion to the First Division on offer if they finish within the top four. The division will primarily contain reserve teams from Premier Division clubs. The two clubs are delighted by Wednesday’s announcement and see this new challenge as a key step in their progression, as well as a chance to hold onto — and develop — their talented young players.
Both clubs have developed superb facilities, at Drom and Fahy’s Field, in recent years as well as making a major impact on national soccer at underage levels.
