Merlin Park to admit new residents after 2-year embargo
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Long-stay nursing units 5 and 6 at Merlin Park Hospital will be open to new residents from the end of the year after a two year ban on admissions.
At the end of May this year, only 25 out of 46 available beds were occupied- but it’s hoped that 42 beds will be filled from the end of 2013.
The HSE decided to stop admissions two years ago and replace the facility with a Rehabilitation Unit.
At this week’s meeting of the Regional Health Forum West, Councillor Catherine Connolly was informed that the Rehabilitation Unit will be at the ground floor of an existing building at Merlin Park – and Units 5 and 6 will remain as long-term nursing units.
