All twelve Irish members of European parliament have joined forces in demanding an independent investigation into the shooting dead of a GMIT graduate in Bolivia three years ago.

The group has jointly written to Baroness Ashton, Europe’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, to request a meeting to discuss the case of Michael Dwyer, shot dead by Bolivian special forces in April 2009.

They have asked Baroness Ashton to confirm whether the United Nations Special Rapporteur into extra-judicial killings is investigating the case, and to explore the scope of her office to instigate a review of facts.
