North&West MEP, Jim Higgins plans to raise the issue of clamping at Galway Docks with the Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar.

Minister Varadkar announced new laws today to regulate the clamping industry to protect motorists from rogue clampers and reward good practice by reputable clampers.

The maximum release fee for a clamped vehicle will be capped at 80 euro.

MEP Higgins has welcomed the new regulations but is still concerned about Dock Road in the city.

He says tourists’ cars get clamped at the Docks for having a City Council pay and display ticket, rather than a Harbour company one.

Speaking to Galway Bay Fm News, MEP Higgins says motorists should not be clamped when they attempt to abide by the rules.
