MEP CALLS FOR JUSTIFICATION OF UNIVERSITY PAY

A Fine Gael MEP wants the pay for University lecturers and professors, including those in Galway, to be justified.

Sean Kelly has been speaking in Brussels where today the European Parliament has voted to modernise Europe’s universities.

The MEPs today voted for a draft resolution which includes calls for universities to engage more actively with potential employers.

There are one thousand and sixty six academic staff at NUI Galway, which has over 17 thousand students.

There are also over one thousand administration and support staff, and over 400 research staff working at the university.

MEP Kelly is calling for lecturers pay across the country to be reviewed
