Memories of a Clifden boyhood

German born singersongwriter Martin Finke is a fully assimilated nonnational with an Irish accent, having moved to Clifden at the age of four.
The singer, who nowlives in America, studied languages in college, but makes deliberate grammar mistakes in his lyrics.
He is proud of the fact that he knows the Portuguese for’go mad altogether’ and the German for ‘schadenfreude’!
In Spain in 1995 Martin began to write songs about summers and winters in Clifden, where he had grown up listening to Van Morrison, My Bloody Valentine and The Wedding Present.
