Memorial Walk Draws Record Attendance

GIVEN the summer we’ve had, perhaps the rain was inevitable but nothing could dampen the atmosphere or the enthusiasm of over 1,500 participants as the third annual Galway Memorial Walk took place on Sunday.
After the first two such events had taken place in blazing sunshine, the rain this time made for a very different day. But thanks to the foresight of the organisers at the Galway Hospice, transparent plastic ponchos provided a degree of comfort for the walkers and ensured the names of their loved ones in whose memory they were walking were still clearly evident on their tee-shirts.
Because that’s what this was all about – remembering in a real way those who have gone and in the process raising badly needed funds for Galway Hospice to ensure those families who will face that trauma in the future will at least have the comfort and consolation of a peaceful end.
The human chain that made its way from the Claddagh Hall out along South Park, onto the Prom to Blackrock and back again was a remarkable sight on such a dreadful day.
