Memorable week for Mervue United
Mervue United have had a week to remember after the club’s senior side was presented with the Western Hygiene Supplies Premier Division trophy last Thursday night; and then the club’s U-12, U-14 and U-18 sides all claimed provincial honours on Saturday.
The junior side was presented with the Premier Division trophy in Bohermore after a 2-0 win over Galway Hibernians, thanks to goals from Barry Moran and Stephen Cunningham.
The club’s focus turned to Moyne Villa’s excellent facility in Headford on Saturday for a Connacht Cup treble-header, and the club made a clean sweep of titles.
The U-12 side had a 3-0 win over Knock-Kiltimagh United thanks to goals from Ryan Corcoran, Charlie Phillippe and Josh Buckley. Next up was the club’s U-14 side, and they ran out 3-1 winners over Castlebar Celtic. The Mayo side opened the scoring in the third minute, but goals from Ronan Ascari, Ronan Manning and Aaron Connolly sealed the win.
The u-18 side completed the clean sweep with a 4-1 win over Conn Rangers, with Andrew Connolly and Chris Carroll giving them, a 2-0 lead at the break. Robert Spellman made it 3-0 on the hour mark, and while Conn Rangers pulled a goal back, Gary Bailey sealed the win for Mervue United with their fourth goal deep in injury time.
