Membership of key West/North West Hospital Group completed

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The membership of the West/North West Hospital Group which is to play a key role in restructuring hospital services has been completed

In May Minister Reilly announced the composition of the new hospital groups, which he described as the most fundamental reform of the Irish acute hospital system in decades.

Today the Minister approved the three final members Gerry McManus from Sligo, Sharon Moohan from Donegal and Colam O’Neill from Mayo complete the Board,

The West/North West Hospital Group has eight non-executive members, four executive members and a chairman.

The non-executive members are not paid a salary and they comprise new members Gerry McManus, Sharon Moohan, Colam O’Neill along with Dr Jim Browne, Dr Brendan Day, Zubair Javeed, Dr John Killeen and Phyllis McNamara

They, along with HSE officials and chairman Noel Daly have been given three years to develop the future of the Hospital Group for The West / North West and have it ready to achieve Trust status.

The remit of the Board is to develop effective corporate and clinical governance structures along with quality and safety systems of care for patients.

A number of the Group’s meetings will be held in public and the first of these took place last month in UHG.
