Wyvern Lingo return to Róisín Dubh on Friday, March 11. Hailing from Bray, the harmony-driven trio spent much of the last year on the road with Hozier, opening for the mega-selling singer as well as performing in his band.

With Karen Cowley on vocals/keyboards, Caoimhe Barry on vocals/drums) and Saoirse Duane on vocals/guitar, Wyvern Lingo bring an alternative sound to folk music while also incorporating the influence of American R&B acts like Erykah Badu and TLC.

Their winning single Subside was recorded in Cologne and produced by Patrice Williams.

“Poor Patrice might’ve been a bit confused at first because we were referencing Jimi Hendrix and then TLC,” Karen says. “It was quite a mix. But he was able to see what we meant with those American R&B references, and then gritty rock as well.”

Thanks in no small part to their association with Hozier, Wyvern Lingo drew an impressive crowd at last year’s Electric Picnic.

“It was 2pm on the Sunday, you’re not really expecting a lot of people,” Karen says. “We were excited, but weren’t expecting huge numbers. Then the tent filled up, and before we knew it there were about two and a half to three thousand people there. It was surreal, amazing – we got a real buzz off it.”

Since then, Wyvern Lingo’s stock has continued to rise with radio exposure and an impressive live show. A band on its way up.

Doors 9pm, admission €12/€10.
