Mellows cruise into last eight

A TOUR de force team performance – incorporating a superb sharpshooting display from Aonghus Callanan – saw LiamMellows sweep aside the challenge of a young Kiltormer outfit in this preliminary quarter-final at Kenny Park, Athenry, on Saturday.

While Kiltormer had kept the exchanges tight and tense in the opening quarter, once Callanan brilliantly struck for the contest’s only goal on 17 minutes, the city outfit began to hurl with aplomb. By half-time, Mellows led by six points, 1-7 to 0-4, with Callanan, John Hughes (2), Shane Minton (3) and Jeffrey Lynskey all tallying some wonderful points in the opening 30 minutes.

For their part, Kiltormer endeavoured to keep in touchwith scores through teenager Kevin McKeigue and dead ball specialist Conor Ryan, who converted three first half frees. In fairness to Kiltormer, they ……..
