MEETING ON FUTURE OF TOGHERMORE RESIDENTIAL FACILITY

The future of Toghermore Residential House in Tuam is to be discussed at a meeting with the HSE and local Oireachtas members on Friday week (Feb 15).

A decision was made in December to wind down the facility after an independent fire and safety report revealed fire safety shortfalls.

However, last month, the immediate threat of relocation for residents was lifted following intervention by the Minister for Health who agreed to allocate funding to address urgent fire safety issues at the 18 bed residential facility.

Minister of State and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says Minister of State with responsibility for Mental Health Kathleen Lynch will support further discussions if needed following this month’s local meeting.
