McGuinness comes west to launch O’Mahony bid
MEP Mairead McGuinness came west last week to launch the general election campaign for Fine Gael colleague John O’Mahony in Claregalway.
The former broadcaster described the sitting TD as ‘a highly respected public representative who while running in this constituency for the first time knows it inside out having led the county to all Ireland victories in 1998 and 2001’.
“He has taken that leadership and focus with him to Dáil Éireann where he has been a strong advocate for communities and has served with distinction as Chairman of the Dáil Committee on Transport and Communications,” she said.
“For the people of this Galway West constituency as elsewhere the most important concern in the forthcoming election will be the economic and social wellbeing of the constituency, the region and the country into the future. And that includes feeling safe and secure at home and on the streets.
She said the recovery, now well under way, has been built upon, and will be sustained by, long-term economic planning.
“Here is Galway we have world leading industry in areas like medical devices in particular where Galway has become a hub. Recovery is stretching into the regions where forestry, tourism, agriculture and food are going to be critical areas for further development.
“Chanelle Pharmaceutical has just announced the creation of 175 jobs in Loughrea manufacturing human and veterinary products. The expansion involving a €70 million investment will lead to the launch of 75 new products over the next five years,” she added.
