One of Galway city’s best known and longest established shops carries the hopes of the city and county in next month’s completion to find Ireland’s friendliest business.

McCambridges on Shop Street was overall winner in the recent Junior Chamber International Galway awards, the third annual friendly business awards held here. They scored highly on all sections, most notably in the customer care category.

Other category winners include Ernie’s Fish and Veg Shop on Sea Road (Customer Choice award), the Meyrick Hotel (Shop Layout/design), the Evergreen Health Store (Digital Experience), Pat Divilly Fitness (Consumer Choice) and the Delight Café in Renmore (Disability Access).

The Friendly Business Awards seek to recognise and celebrate businesses that go the ‘extra mile’ by continuing to enhance the customer experience without compromising on customer service, despite the current difficult economic climate.

Entrants were judged on customer care and friendliness, eco friendliness, shop layout and design, disability access and finally digital media, which reflects the importance of user-friendliness of websites, social media and so forth for customers.

McCambridges will now bid to become crowned Ireland’s friendliest business at the JCI national convention being held in Cork on the weekend of October 3.
