MAYOR-HOPEFUL REGRETS CAUSING OFFENCE
Date Published: 29-Jun-2011
The next possible Mayor of Galway, Councillor Hildegarde Naughton, says she ‘regrets’ causing offence to two other councillors with comments she made at a meeting about the City Development Plan.
Under the City Council ruling pact, Fine Gael Councillor Naughton should be elected Mayor of the city later this evening.
However a row erupted over comments she made about councillors doing the bidding of a certain ‘elite’ in the city.
However, Councillor Naughton stresses that she never accused any other councillor of being ‘in the pockets of developers.’
Fianna Fáil Councillor, Peter Keane and Independent Councillor, Donal Lyons said they would not vote for Hildegarde as Mayor unless she apologised for the comments.
