MAYOR DESCRIBES THERMO KING JOB LOSSES AS DEVASTATING
Date Published: 26-Nov-2008
The loss of 110 jobs at Thermo King in the city is being described as a “devastating blow” to workers and their families.
Mayor of Galway Padraic Conneely says the high number of job losses is alarming.
Workers and unions were informed today at the plant on the Monivea road.
Thermo King says the job losses are a result of global downsizing by Climate Control Technologies, which manufactures equipment for food and other perishables at Thermo King.
Climate Control Technologies has also announced major job cuts at two of its manufacturing plants in Spain.
A spokesperson for Thermo King says the job losses will be managed through a combination of contract suspensions, voluntary severance options, as well as the non-renewal of temporary contracts.
Mayor Conneely is calling on the IDA and the Government to ensure the jobs lost are replaced as soon as possible
