Theatre director and teacher Max Hafler is a busy man – and his schedule is showing no signs of easing.

His new book, Teaching Voice: Workshops for Young Performers will be launched this Friday, July 22, at 6pm in Dubray Books on Shop Street, Galway City.

Max specialises in teaching the Chekhov Technique, which is based on the work of director Michael Chekhov. Chekhov (1891-1955) believed that the job of the actor and theatre-maker was to make the intangible, tangible and to reveal the invisible to the audience.

Max will host classes on the technique at NUIG from August 18-21 at NUIG. Expressing The Invisible will use the Chekhov Technique to look at an Irish classic, under Max’s guidance.

Max, who trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, has been teaching for the past 25 years, both here and abroad. He also trained at the Michael Chekhov Association in the United States, and teaches the technique at NUIG and with Chekhov Training and Performance Ireland.

His book, Teaching Voice, also incorporates Voice and Chekhov Technique.

The four-day workshop at NUIG is for actors, directors and students.

The fee is €180/ €150. More information from 086-3307325.
