Maturing Mervue hammer Kildare

GOOD Friday turned into a great Friday for Mervue Utd as they collected maximum points from their trip to take on the First Division’s bottom side at Station Road. The scoreline was identical to that famous night in November when promotion to the League was secured, but that is where the comparisons end as Johnny Glynn’s side are maturing into a fine squad who are more than capable of competing at this level.

Kildare, on the back of a poor start to the season, were outclassed in every department and can have little complaints about a result which has kept them rooted to the bottom of the table.

The Galway men started much brighter and took the game to their opponents from the outset with Nicky Curren popping up in the opposition box on a couple of occasions early on. Kildare did have a
couple of attacks in the early exchanges and the returning Ryan Griffan had to be alert to push a Cathal Brady effort around the post in the eleventh minute.
