Marty looks forward to holding big hooley in Leisureland

It’s long been accepted that Marty likes to Party – but these days he’s hellbent on taking it to new heights, by packing what might otherwise fill two days’ worth of entertainment into a couple of hours he calls an old-style variety show with a 21st century twist.

And the Marty Party is coming to Leisureland next week with a stellar line-up of national and local artists – singers, musicians, comedians and special guests – for a night of guaranteed entertainment…even if the man himself is never quite sure how it will all pan out.

“I’ve probably put too much into these shows, but I’d prefer to have overdone it than undercooked,” says Marty Morrissey, the party man himself.

He started with just a name and a concept – the Marty Party, and a night with his friends and artists he admires, coupled with audience interaction, a Guess the Celebrity competition, spectacular giveaways and a bit of craic – but this is no formulaic proposition.

“Everyone who knows me also knows that, even though I don’t drink or smoke, I’m always the last man to leave the pub or any party. Sport is obviously my passion, but music and dancing come close behind – not that this means I’m any good at either!” he says.

But if he’s not, then he knows plenty who are – which is why the Leisureland show on Saturday week, March 25, features a line-up that includes Sharon Shannon, Eurovision winners Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan, his old dancing and road trip buddy Bernard O’Shea, the Galway Tenors, the Heroes for Hospice Choir and a number of local acts still to be announced.
