Maree Road realignment gets go-ahead

Galway Bay fm newsroom- A project to realign of a stretch of the Maree Road in Oranmore has been given the go-ahead.

An Bord Pleanala has approved the project subject to certain modifications with five conditions attached.

The scheme involves a section of 220 metres.

It is to be modified by reducing the width of the road by three metres through the omission of cycle-lanes and a reduction in carriageway.

Of the other conditions attached, one states that the mitigation measures identified in the Natura impact statement are to be implemented in full by the local authority.

Galway County Council is also required to facilitate the preservation , recording and protection of archaeological materials or features that may exist along the route.
