Maree's Dayna Finn who had an outstanding game in scoring 33 points against Killester in the clubs' Super League tie on Saturday.

A stunning performance from Dayna Finn helped Maree’s Super League women’s side come from 14 points down at half-time to clinch an overtime win against Killester on Saturday to keep their title hopes alive ahead of a showdown with league leaders, DCU Mercy, this Sunday.

Maree go into the game six points behind DCU with two games remaining, so they will need to beat the Dublin side, win their final game against IT Carlow the following week, and then hope DCU slip-up away to Glanmire of Cork in their last game to claim the league title.

There wasn’t such good news for the club’s men’s side, as they were pipped by three points at home to Killester in the second game of a double-header between the clubs on Saturday. They remain just above the relegation play-off spot occupied by Moycullen, but the west Galway side have now drawn level on points in the table with their local rivals after a resounding win away to Neptune of Cork at the weekend.

NUIG Mystics will hope to end their season on a winning note this weekend when they travel to Belfast to face Phoenix Rockets. They were well beaten by Portlaosie Panthers on Saturday and are guaranteed to finish third of six teams in the Southern Conference; while Rockets will finish bottom of the five-team Northern Conference.

WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE

Maree 94

Killester 85

(after overtime)

Maree continue to defy the odds in their debut season in the Women’s Super League and with two games to go, Joe Shields’ side still have a chance to make history and capture the league title.

They are six points behind DCU with two games remaining, and the two sides are due to meet in Dublin this weekend. A win for Maree will see them close the gap to three points with one game remaining, and also give them the head-to-head advantage.

They will host IT Carlow in their final game, which they will be expected to win; and with DCU wrapping up their season away to third-placed Glanmire of Cork, Maree could be just two games away from being crowned champions.
