A meteor shower was spotted blazing across Galway skies last night.

A number of our listeners have reported witnessing the event between 9:20 and 11pm.

Maura Joyce and her husband saw several fireballs blazing across the skies near Laurencetown at around 11pm, and described it as a ‘spectacular event’.

The meteor shower was also spotted in the city, Ballinasloe, Portumna, Carna, Clifden, Craughwell, Turloughmore, Ballindereen, Gurteen, Belclare and Athenry.

Social media sites such as twitter are also full of messages and pictures of people’s sightings across the whole coast of Ireland.
