Manuela trial told of ligature marks on neck

SWISS student Manuela Riedo died as a result of neck compression, and the 17 year old also had a 15-centimetre ligature mark around her neck.

State Pathologist, Professor Marie Cassidy, revealed her findings yesterday at the murder trial of 28 year old Gerald Barry, of Rosan Glas, Rahoon. He denies murdering Manuela Riedo on waste ground at Lough Atalia, Renmore, on October 8 2007. But he has pleaded guilty to stealing a camera and mobile phone at the same place and date.

Professor Cassidy said that, on examining the body, she found there was a laceration at the back of the head and bruising under the scalp. She said this was consistent with the head being struck off the ground.
