MANUELA FUNDRAISERS WIN TOP MAYORS AWARD

The Organising Committee of the ‘Night for Manuela’ has scooped the Galway City Credit Unions’ Volunteer of the Year Award at the annual Mayoral Awards.

The winners were presented with their awards by Mayor Michael Crowe at a ceremony at the Black Box in the city last night.[1/2]

The Manuela committee received the award for its fundraising initiatives for Galway Rape Crisis Centre since the tragic murder of Manuela Riedo in the city over three years ago.

The Arts, Culture, Heritage and Cursaí Gaeilge Award went to 126 Artist-run gallery.

The Residents’ and Local Areas award was scooped by Valerie Pointer, while the Social and Community Support Award went to The Ballinfoile Mór Community Garden and Dr. Richard Joyce for developing Galway Hospice Services.

The Sports Volunteer Award was awarded to Paddy Connolly from the Hibs Foyle Club.

The Ballinfoile Parent and Toddler Group won the Children and Youth Award, while the Young Volunteer of the Year was announced as John Hubert of the GAF café.
