Galway City Manager, Joe MacGrath has been offered the position of County Manager in his native North Tipperary.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, it is believed that Mr MacGrath, who is a native of Nenagh, informed senior officials and councillors of the appointment on Thursday evening.

Mr MacGrath, who has been five years in the position of City Manager for Galway, was one of four candidates shortlisted for the position. One of the other three included his colleague, Director of Services, Ciaran Hayes, also a Tipperary native.

The final interviews of the process were held in Dublin on Wednesday and Mr MacGrath was told almost immediately he had the position. Before he came to Galway, he had been Director of Services in County Kerry.

It is not known when he will be taking up his new position.
