Management of Galway Roscommon hospital group vows to learn from Savita Inquiries
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Chief Operating Officer of the Galway/Roscommon Hospital Group Tony Canavan says that management is determined to learn for the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar.
He was speaking at this week’s meeting of the Regional Health Forum following a query raised by the forum chairperson Cllr Padraig Conneely who said that inquiry reports made ‘damning reading’.
Mr Canavan said that the disciplinary process is underway which includes expertise from outside of the hospital to engage independent oversight of the processes employed by the review panel.
Members were also advised that there is progress in implementing recommendations from the coroner’s inquest and other inquiries.
These include the implementation of the early warning signs system, education on the management of sepsis and septic shock, and an improved process for doctor’s handovers.
The Chief Operating Officer once again reiterated that the case was the first maternal death in UHG in 16 years.
