MAN WHO THREATENED TO BURN DOWN GALWAY RAPE CRISIS CENTRE APPEARS IN COURT

A 25 year old Connemara man, who threatened to burn down Galway Rape Crisis Centre office, has been remanded on continuing bail following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.
Padraig Conroy, of Lehenagh, Cashel, pleaded guilty to persistently phoning the Rape Crisis Centre, between October 25, 2007, and January 4, 2008 for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience and needless anxiety to another
Inspector Ernie White said the accused made a number of phone calls between October 2007 and last January to the Rape Crisis Centre saying he wanted to speak to a particular lady.
When he was told this was not possible he threatened to burn the place down and break all the windows.
A psychiatrist’s report was handed into court yesterday and defence solicitor, Valerie Corcoran said her client was receiving treatment and counselling.
Judge Mary Fahy remanded Conroy on continuing bail, to appear before the court again on February 3 next.
