Man who drowned off Inishbofin named locally

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A post mortem examination will be carried out on the body of a man recovered from the waters off Inishbofin in the early hours of today.

The man has been named locally as 54 year old Sean McDonagh from Ard Mor Carna who had been fishing on the Galway Island.

Mr McDonagh had been fishing from a boat when he fell into the waters on Inishbofin sometime between 2:30 and 3:30am.

Clifden RNLI was tasked to the scene and brought him to Cleggan pier, where they were met by ambulance crew.

Medical staff attempted to resuscitate Mr McDonagh but he was later pronounced dead at University Hospital Galway.
