Man undergoes surgery after serious stabbing
From the Galway City Tribune – Gardaí have appealed for information in their investigation of a serious stabbing incident that occurred in the city during the early hours of last Thursday morning.
The alarm was raised at around 2.30am on Thursday after a man – who was attending a house party in the Prospect Hill area – suffered stab wounds to his chest.
He was removed by ambulance to University Hospital Galway where he is understood to have undergone a surgical procedure for his injuries which are believed to be serious but not life threatening.
The victim, who is in his early 20s, was part of a large group of people – possibly close on 40 – who were in the house at the time when an altercation developed.
Gardaí who were on the scene shortly afterwards arrested one man – also in his early 20s – who has been charged in relation to the possession of an offensive weapon.
He is expected to appear in court next month under Section 9.1 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, in relation to the possession of a knife or a sharply pointed object in a public place.
According to a Garda spokesperson, a major investigation has been launched into the incident and they have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with any relevant information to make contact with them.
“There were a large number of people in the house at the time and we are strongly urging any witnesses to make contact with us.
“This was a very serious incident in which a young man suffered stab wounds and had to receive emergency hospital treatment. An incident like this could have led to catastrophic consequences,” said the Garda spokesperson.
