MAN STILL IN GARDA CUSTODY IN CONNECTION WITH CITY ASSAULT

Galway Gardai are continuing to question a man in relation to an assault in the city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A man in his 20s was walking alone on Market street just after midnight (early hours of thurs aug 27) when he was attacked.

It’s understood he was hit on the head with a small iron bar a number of times, and had to be rushed to hospital.

He received a number of stitches at University Hospital Galway and was later discharged.

The man being held was arrested in the Briarhill area around 1.30pm yesterday.

He’s being held at Mill Street station under section 3 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
