MAN QUESTIONED FOLLOWING ALLEGED EYRE SQUARE ASSAULT

One man is being questioned at Milstreet Garda station following an alleged assault on a woman in the city this morning.

The woman, in her twenties, suffered head injuries, during an incident outside the Imperial hotel on Eyre square at around 3:30am.

It’s understood a number of men were involved in a scuffle outside the hotel, when the woman intervened.

She was taken to University Hospital Galway where her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A man, in his twenties and from the Galway area was arrested and taken to Milstreet Garda station.

He is currently being detained under section 4 of the criminal justice act.
