Man pleads not guilty to sex assault on child

A 35-year-old man has gone on trial charged with the sexual assault of a young child over twenty years ago, when he was a teenager.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court this morning to four charges of sexual assault involving a male child, on dates between May 1994 and May 1995, at a Co. Galway location.

A jury of two women and ten men was sworn in to hear evidence in the trial, which is expected to last three days.
