Man in court over Knocknacca dangerous driving charge
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A man who seriously injured a pedestrian on the Barna Road last Christmas has appeared in court and pleaded guilty to two offences in relation to the incident.
31 year old Marius Strelciunas, of 132 Manor Court, Knocknacarra, Galway appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
At Galway Circuit Criminal Court, Marius Strelciunas pleaded guilty to driving dangerously and in a manner including speed, which caused serious bodily harm to Alex Dainty at Barna Road, Knocknacarra on December 23 last year.
Strelciunas also pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in that a blood sample taken shortly afterwards showed a reading of 178mgs of alcohol per 100 mls. of blood, while the legal blood/alcohol limit at the time was 20 mgs. per 100 mls. of blood.
Defence barrister, John Hogan asked for time to prepare for sentence.
He said that while his client had no previous convictions, the injuries to the victim were quite significant and a probation report might be beneficial.
Judge McCabe agreed to adjourn sentence to January 29.
