Man hospitalised after knife-point robbery
Gardaí have appealed for assistance into a stabbing incident this week that led to a young man being hospitalised with cuts to his hand.
Four youths who were walking together in the Bohermore area on Wednesday afternoon last were approached by two young men who demanded money off them.
The incident occurred at St. Bridget’s Place shortly before 4.30pm with an altercation developing when the four youths who were approached declined to hand over any cash.
One of the two men who demanded the money then produced a knife and approached one of the four youths inflicting stab wounds to his hand.
The injured party was taken to University Hospital Galway on Wednesday evening where his injuries were being treated as serious but not life-threatening.
Gardaí have appealed for information into the incident and are particularly anxious to speak to any witnesses or anyone who may have car dash-cam footage of what happened.
“We obviously take a very serious view of what happened. This was a serious assault in which a young man was hospitalised with stab wounds.
“Initially, it seems to have been a robbery attempt that subsequently turned into a more serious assault,” said the Garda spokesperson.
Gardaí investigating the incident are also checking CCTV footage in the Bohermore/Prospect Hill area which may be of assistance to them.
Anyone with information in relation to the stabbing is asked to contact Galway Garda Station, Mill Street, on 091-538000 or to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111.
