MAN HIT BY TRAIN IN ORANMORE CONVICTED OF CARELESS DRIVING

A van driver who was hit by a train when he drove through a level crossing without stopping, was convicted of careless driving at Galway District Court.

Imposing a €700 fine for the offence, Judge Aeneus McCarthy said 44 year old Martin Fitzpatrick of Rinville, Oranmore, had not alone gambled with his own life but with the lives of everyone on the train that morning.
