MAN HELD OVER ALLEGED SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CITY

A man in his late twenties is still being held at Galway Garda station in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault on a woman in the city yesterday.

It’s understood the victim had been out socialising in the city and got into a stranger’s car in the Woodquay area around 4 o’clock yesterday morning.

Her attacker allegedly beat and sexually assaulted her over the next three hours, until she was released in Doughiska around 7am.

The man in his late 20’s was arrested last night in the east side of the city and taken in for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act on suspicion of sexual assault and false imprisonment.
