A Galway woman is set to put herself at the centre of the tabloids with the latest instalment in scripted reality TV shows pulling in nearly 600,000 viewers in the UK.
Layla Flaherty (28), from Costello Road in Shantalla, is described as the Irish beauty and self-confessed man eater of a new eight-part series on E4 called Desperate Scousewives.
The show gives a window into wannabe wags in the same vein as The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) and Made in Chelsea. The competition among the cast of manicured characters to bag a rich footballer, successful businessman, or a would-be celeb is fierce.
The daughter of a Connemara mother and father of African/American descent, Layla has been modelling since she was 14 and was a regular face at the Catwalk agency. She moved to Liverpool in 2005 to join two friends who were studying in the city.
Her role in the show’s first episode raised. She is involved in a love triangle fighting for the attentions of club promoter Joe McMahon, who spends two hours a day in the gym honing his physique.
During a break from filming, Layla admitted to the Galway City Tribune that she questioned herself after seeing the footage. “I thought ‘oh my God’ when you see yourself and what you’ve doing. I need to move on and meet someone else…it has opened my eyes definitely,” she revealed.
However she rejects the bad press her “desperate” behaviour has attracted, insisting that every woman goes through a similar relationship experience.
Desperate Scousewives airs on Mondays at 10pm on E4.
