MAN DIES AFTER RESCUE OPERATION NEAR SPIDDAL

A man in his 40s has died following a sea and air rescue operation near Spiddal.

Neal Owens from Inverin, was out fishing on a small boat between Furbo and Blackhead yesterday morning when he began to suffer chest pains. (21/09)

Another man on board contacted the Irish Coastguard and headed for Spiddal.

Galway RNLI lifeboat crew launched just before 1 o’clock and arrived at the scene a short time later, followed by ambulance crew and the rescue helicopter from Shannon.

The man was transferred to UHG by helicopter, where he was pronounced dead some time later.
