Bouncer is convicted of Galway emigrant’s manslaughter in Perth

A man has been found guilty of the manslaughter of a Galway man in Perth, Western Australia.

Thomas Keaney (23), originally from Ballyconneely Co. Galway, was the victim of a one-punch assault outside a kebab shop on December 17th 2013.

Mr Keaney fell after being assaulted hitting his head off the footpath which caused serious brain damage.

He died ten days later from injuries sustained in the assault, despite initially showing signs of improvement.

His sister Lauren, who was present at the trial, called for an end to ‘the coward’s punch’, going onto say that the death of her brother “shattered [her families] lives.”

Abbas Al Jrood (23), an off-duty bouncer at the time of the attack, was convicted of manslaughter. He will be sentenced in July; until then he will be remanded in custody.
