An English man, convicted in 2000 of raping a tourist at Nimmo’s Pier in the city, has consented to the making of an order for his return to the UK

47 year old Mark Trayton Smith from Cheltenham was convicted of murdering a bank colleague at Swansea Crown Court in 1983 and was given a life sentence.

He was released from prison in 1995 under certain conditions.

On June 5th 1999, Mark Trayton Smith raped a 21 year old english tourist at Nimmo’s Pier at 5am, as she was watching the sunrise alone.

He was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court in 2000 to 12 years in prison for that offence.

Gardaí here arrested him last month, shortly after his release from prison, according to today’s Irish Times.

British Authorities say Trayton Smith breached the conditions of his early release from prison in the 90s, for the murder.

At the High Court this week, Mr. Justice Michael Peart made the order for Trayton Smith’s surrender to the authorities in the UK.
