A man has been charged with handling stolen property at Lydican as well as the theft of farmers gates at Claregalway.

It follows yesterday’s Garda swoop in Oranmore where a large quantity of building and farming materials were seized.

Two men who were also arrested yesterday have been transferred to Claremorris Garda station where they’re being questioned about burglaries in the Mayo area.

Gardaí arrested all three men yesterday morning in the Lydican area as they made their way towards Oranmore.

The men, aged in their early twenties, were travelling in a Red Peugeot Expert van with a builders trailer attached.

It was carrying valuable building materials such as a digger bucket and copper piping as well as farming materials including gating and other equipment.

Gardai have since identified some of the items seized which were taken from the Ballinrobe area.

A Garda spokesperson says the stolen items are being stored at Oranmore station and members of the public have already claimed some of the goods.

The man charged with handling stolen property has been released from custody and will appear before the courts this week.
