A 31 years-old man accused of threatening or abusive behaviour outside a national school in the city last month, was granted free legal aid at Galway District Court on Wednesday.
Dressed in a grey zipped-up hoodie, white t-shirt, and tracksuit bottoms, Waqar Khan, with an address at Outdoor World Flat, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, asked Judge Mary Fahy for legal advice when he appeared before her.
He outlined details of a serious medical condition, that he had undergone surgery, adding that he had been living in Ireland for the past 10-11 years.
Khan is accused of threatening or abusive behaviour on Colmcille Road, Shantalla, on June 12 last, contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act.
Inspector Ernie Whyte told the court that he made no reply after being charged. Judge Fahy awarded the defendant free legal aid, before remanding him on continuing bail to appear again in September.
