MAN CHARGED OVER MISSING GLENAMADDY RESIDENT
Date Published: 24-Jul-2011
A 35 year old man has appeared before the courts charged in connection with the disappearance of Glenamaddy resident Juris Buls.
Sergejs Kraus of 12 dudley heights Glenamaddy has been charged with withholding information contrary to section 9 of the offences against the state act.
At a special sitting of Tuam district court in Galway, Detective Michael Kelly gave evidence of charging the Latvian man at Tuam Garda station, to which his reply was ‘I understood’.
An application for bail, made by defence solicitor Tom O’ Donohue was strongly objected to by Inspector Mick O’ Dwyer.
He said that in the course of searches in the Glenamaddy area they had found a body, and had reasonable cause to believe it may be that of missing Juris Buls.
As a result of this it’s likely more serious charges may be brought forward.
Inspector O’ Dwyer said Gardai considered Sergejs Kraus to be a flight risk as he was in possesion of a one way ticket to Latvia on September 2nd.
Speaking with the aid of a Russian translater, Sergejs Kraus said he had a wife and daughter and they went on holidays every year.
He also said they fully intended on returning to Ireland.
Judge Geoffrey Browne refused an application for bail and remanded him in custody to appear before the courts again on Tuesday the 26th of July.
