MAN ARRESTED AFTER BUS TAKEN AND CRASHED IN GALWAY

ONE man was arrested after a bus was taken at the Bus Eireann Depot in Galway and crashed a short distance away this evening (Saturday).

Nobody was injured and there were no passengers on the bus when it was taken at approximately 4.45 this evening.

The bus was damaged as it collided with a Citroen car parked near the back entrance to the Bus Eireann Depot. The car was badly damaged in the impact.

A concrete bollard was smashed and another one knocked from its plint beside where the car was parked.

This was at the rear entrance to the bus depot and close to the junction which leads to the Radison Hotel on one side and Eyre Square or College Road at the other exit

The bus was then driven along part of Eyre Square past the Merrick Hotel and came to a stop at barririers close to the turn-off for Galway Docks

Gardai were quickly on the scene and the man was arrested and taken to Mill Street Garda Station for questioning.
