MAN APPEARS IN COURT OVER ASSAULTING OFF DUTY COUNTY GUARD

A man has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm in Limerick to an off-duty garda stationed in Gort

Michael Fitzgerald, of Clough-na-dromin, Ballysimon, Limerick, was remanded in custody with consent to bail on his own bond of 12 hundred euro and an independent surety of 12 hundred euro.

The off duty garda sustained a serious head injury after he was attacked on St Patrick’s Road in Limerick, in the early hours of September 16th, as he walked home with his wife.

A 15-year old boy is to appear in court later today, charged with stealing the victim’s wife’s handbag.
